Some statements were made on the field on Monday, with a few teams starting to assert themselves by producing sterling performances in the pool stages, as the action gained momentum on day two of the SASHOC U-18 Nationals in Stellenbosch.

Hosts Boland continued their impressive run in the boys’ A-section, securing victories over the KZN Inland B team (3-0) and Amathole (1-0) to move three points clear at the top of Pool B.

Western Province and KZN Coastal were level on six points in Pool A, with both teams picking up their second wins of the tournament, though WP held a narrow lead on goal difference.

Meanwhile, in the girls’ A-section tournament, Amathole and Western Province also remained unbeaten.

Amathole earned their third successive triumph with a 3-1 victory over Northerns, moving two points clear at the top of Pool A.

Western Province also wrapped up their third win, beating Southern Free State 2-0, and they were three points ahead of their nearest opponents in Pool B.

The six-day SASHOC U-18 Nationals, showcasing South Africa’s most promising young hockey players, will come to a close on Friday, 1 July.
