Promising young players and school teams from around the country continued to flaunt a wide range of skills on Tuesday, on the third day of action at the SASHOC U-18 Nationals in Stellenbosch.

In the girls’ A-section, hosts Boland produced a thrilling 2-1 victory over Amathole to take control at the top of Pool A.

The Boland A team settled on 10 points, with Amathole slipping to second position, just one point behind.

Western Province took control in Pool A, climbing three points clear of their nearest opponents after remaining unbeaten with four wins from as many games.

Both groups, meanwhile, were being tightly contested in the boys A-section tournament.

In Pool A, Western Province and KZN Coastal were level on 10 points, with each side having earned three wins and one draw.

The battle was even close in Pool B. Though Southern Free State held a slight lead on goal difference over Boland and KZN Inland, all three teams were on nine points. The six-day SASHOC U-18 Nationals, showcasing South Africa’s most promising young hockey players, will come to a close on Friday, 1 July.
